Governors

School governors are volunteers who help to run the school. Most schools work with a group of school governors – together they’re called the ‘governing body‘. They’re involved in decisions about all aspects of managing the school – such as running buildings and budgets, supporting staff and setting standards of school discipline.

I have been a governor since 2015 and was appointed Chair of Governors in 2018. I believe that striving for excellence in education is extremely important and enjoy working to bring about positive change. I am part of the Senior Management Team at Harrow School in my role as Director of Studies. I have published widely in Holocaust education, a subject in which I completed my PhD in 2014. I am also involved in various work in Rwanda, which my wife and I enjoy visiting regularly. We are also members of a local church in Finchley.

I recently joined the Governing Board because I wanted to find a way to give back to my local community. I am passionate about keeping children safe and providing them with the best opportunity to learn and grow in a nurturing environment. Since completing my Masters at university I have worked in various public sector organisations specialising in safeguarding. I have worked on policy and delivery on Child and Adult protection such as CSE, FGM, Radicalisation, Internet safety etc. The list of risks children face now is enormous and I hope my skill and knowledge in this complex field will assist Elmgrove in keeping their children as safe as possible.

I am a barrister specialising in children’s and family law. I am also a member of management committee at my barristers’ chambers, one of the largest in the UK dealing with business strategy, recruitment, equality and diversity issues.
As a tennis enthusiast and qualified tennis coach I have spent several years training junior tennis players at primary schools, tennis camps and clubs.
I was keen to become a school governor to combine my passion for social justice, my local community and ensuring that every child access good education.

I have taught at Elmgrove for many years now. I’ve enjoyed teaching in different year groups and leading in different subjects. I was inspired to become a parent governor, as I wanted to be involved in making a difference within the school and helping to make decisions that would effect my children’s education. I currently have two children that attend Elmgrove, one nearly at the end of his journey and one who has just begun. I am currently working within an education setting as a Learning Support Assistant in a high school within the borough, so feel that my knowledge and understanding of the education system can benefit me with in the role as a parent governor, as well as using the resources and knowledge I have gained in my previous careers. I recently joined Elmgrove as a Governor because I was to contribute to my local community, assist with the strategic direction of the school and for personal development, I had learning difficulties when I was in school and my teachers provided support unconditionally to overcome these difficulties so I understand how school and teachers play an important role in a child’s life.   I have been in the technology field for 26 years with 22 in multiple national newspapers, currently in a global leadership role which extends across the UK, North America , India and Australia.
