Year 5 - All things Space

On Wednesday 23rd September, STEM Ambassador and Space Expert Chris Joly joined a video call with all of Year 5 to share his expertise on all things space. He taught the children about planets, the moon, black holes, satellites, the effects of light pollution and the milky way. Children made lots of notes in their books and listened really well for 45 minutes and Chris also answered many of the children's questions.

Children have been learning about Space in their science lessons and have also created some space art inspired by the planets in our solar system.

 

Year 6 Update

All of the children have settled into their new classes. We have chosen our house and vice captains and will be announcing our prefects over the next couple of weeks.

 

Science

We have been learning about the circulatory system in science . The children have learnt about how the system works, how the heart pumps blood around the body and the different blood cells and their functions. We will be investigating pulse rate over the next few days and will then move onto to our learning around light.

 

English

The children have been reading Tyger by SF Said. They have written some great suspense and action paragraphs and we will be using these in our first piece of extended writing soon.

 

Kew Gardens

Year 6 finally made it to Kew Gardens this week for the trip that was rearranged from Year 5. We headed first to the Tree top Walk where the children were able to walk amongst the trees and had fantastic views over the gardens. Many conquered their fear of heights and it was probably the highlight of the trip. We also visited the Temperate House, The Palm House and the Princess of Wales House where the children were able to experience the plants that grow in different biomes. The weather was great and the children had a really good time. Thank you to all the parents who came with us – we did a lot of walking!
