At Elmgrove Primary School and Nursery, our children are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the importance of pupil voice and actively encourage our children to share their ideas, opinions and experiences about matters that affect them and their school.

Our School Council plays an important role in ensuring that children’s voices are heard. Each year, one pupil is elected to represent each class. Meetings are held regularly with our PSHE Lead in school, where School Council members have the opportunity to discuss ideas, raise issues and share the views of their classmates. Following meetings, School Council members take ideas and feedback back to their classes so that everyone has the opportunity to contribute. 

Over the past year, our School Council has been involved in a range of exciting projects and initiatives. They supported the process of changing the whole school menu, gathering the views, ideas and preferences of children across the school and sharing these to help shape the new menu. This gave our pupils a real opportunity to have their say in what they would like to see on the menu at lunchtime. Our children have also played an active role in promoting sustainability across the school and supporting environmental initiatives in our local community. They took part in the Harrow Air Quality and Anti-Idling Project, participating in four workshops to learn more about air quality, pollution and the impact of idling vehicles. As part of the project, pupils were involved in an outdoor campaign where they spoke with drivers, shared anti-idling pledges and distributed stickers to help raise awareness and encourage positive change.

We’re really proud of our School Council and the ideas, energy and enthusiasm they bring to everything they do. It’s fantastic to see our children speaking up, sharing their ideas and helping to make positive changes in our school and wider community.
