Intent
At Elmgrove, Art and Design inspires creativity, self-expression and a love of visual language. Pupils explore ideas, materials and techniques to develop artistic skills and confidence. By Year 6, they are independent, reflective and imaginative artists - becoming confident, imaginative and reflective young artists.
Implementation
A progressive curriculum builds skills in drawing, painting, collage, printing and 3D work. Pupils use sketchbooks to record ideas and reflections. Independent and group projects encourage creativity and ownership. Inclusive teaching and ongoing assessment ensure all pupils succeed. Assessment is through observation, discussion, sketchbooks and final outcomes.

Design and Technology
Intent
At Elmgrove, Design and Technology fosters creativity, problem-solving and practical thinking. Pupils design and make purposeful, functional and engaging products. By Year 6, they are confident, reflective and resourceful designers — becoming innovative and skilled designers.
Implementation
A progressive curriculum follows the design process: research, design, make and evaluate. Pupils complete units on mechanisms, structures, textiles, food and electrical systems, linking learning to other subjects. Projects promote creativity, teamwork and safe use of tools. Assessment is ongoing through observation, discussion and outcomes.
Impact

French
Intent
At Elmgrove, our French curriculum develops key language skills and fosters a love of languages and cultures. Pupils build confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, develop secure vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, and appreciate how language connects to identity and diversity. By Year 6, they have a strong foundation in French and confidence to continue learning at secondary school— becoming curious, confident and culturally aware linguists.
Implementation
All KS2 pupils have weekly French lessons that build progressively on prior learning. Lessons develop core language skills through engaging topics, songs, games and role-play. Key vocabulary and grammar are regularly revisited, with support for all learners, including those with SEND. Progress is assessed through participation, written work and observation.
Impact

Music
Intent
